A Vision for Powell River's Children and Families

The Success By 6 Council of Partners is committed to a vision:

In Powell River all children and families are valued, respected, nurtured, cared for and given the opportunity to develop to their full potential as healthy, educated, competent, caring and responsible people.

Our Principles

• Children - including those with special needs and from diverse cultures - will be safe, secure and cared for. They will all have the opportunity to develop to their fullest potentials - free of limitations resulting from preventable conditions - and will be ready to learn;
• Community members will value children and parenting, and will take collective responsibility for child health and development;
• Organizations and people working together effectively, with a common vision in support of children and their parents;
• Parents have the information, skills, resources and support they need to parent effectively;
• Organizations, agencies and community are able to provide services and programs that will enrich young children’s lives;
• The community collectively recognizes the importance of the first six years and enthusiastically accepts responsibility for ensuring our young children thrive.

We are striving to achieve this vision by building the capacity of parents and the whole community to support children ages 0-6 to become healthy, safe and secure, and physically, socially and emotionally ready to succeed in school and in life.

Priorities for Powell River

Powell River Success By 6 priorities include raising the awareness of the importance of the early years across the region and providing funding to projects that help meet local needs. To date Success By 6 has made close to $45,000 available to the community of service providers for programs and activities for children and families.
