Innovation in Partnerships

Success By 6 Powell River is committed to building relationships and partnerships across the community. Here are some examples:

Aboriginal Engagement Strategy

Success By 6 is contributing to the development of services and strategies for Aboriginal children and their families. This work is overseen by an “Aboriginal Engagement Accountability Team” that includes the Aboriginal partners, a member of Success By 6’s allocation committee, and other Council of Partners members who have an interest or stake in this area. Included on the team is the director of Tla’Amin Health and two Aboriginal ECD service providers. This team will be a ‘standing committee’ of Success By 6 Council of Partners and will provide support, development and contract management.

Powell River Official Community Plan

Success By 6 worked with other individuals and groups to ensure that Official Community Plan for the City of Powell River recognizes the needs of children and families. Outdoor play spaces, accessible services and family friendly development are mentioned in the OCP.

Understanding the Early Years

Understanding the Early Years – Sunshine Coast (UEY-SC) is a federally funded research and action project. UEY-SC operated in Powell River and the South Sunshine Coast.

Success By 6 and the Powell River and District United Way supported the application for this program. We continue to work with UEY-SC’s managing partner, Powell River Child Youth and Family Services, toward our shared goals:

  • increase social awareness,
  • support existing community coalitions
  • learn from each other’s best practices and
  • encourage local leadership to use evidence on early development to influence their work.

Community participation and Council of Partners Linkages

The Success By 6 coordinator participates on several local planning committees including:

  • Child and Youth Inter-Services Management Team
  • Building Blocks 0-5 committee
  • Understanding the Early Years – Sunshine Coast Leadership Team
  • Powell River Literacy Council
